Pets can suffer from seasonal allergies just like humans can. With summer underway, it is essential to know the signs showing your pet has seasonal allergies. That way you can treat your dog's allergies and provide them with the relief they need.
Your Pet Has Ear Infections That Don't End
Allergies can have an impact on your dog's ears, regardless of the type of ears your dog has. Your dog's ears present a dark and moist environment that can allow both yeast and bacteria to grow. When the skin is irritated due to seasonal allergies, it will quickly get infected. If you don't treat the allergies that are impacting your pet's ear, then it is going to continue to be infected.
Your Pet is Always Licking Their Paws
It is normal for your dog to occasionally lick and cleans its paws. However, if your pet is constantly cleaning their feet, to the point where they never seem to stop licking and chewing on them, especially after they have been outside, that may be another sign of allergies. When your pet comes into contact with allergens while they are outside, they will engage in licking and chewing their paws to stop the itchy and irritating feeling that they are experiencing.
Your Pet is Starting to Lose Fur
Your pet may not stop at licking and chewing on their paws; they may also do that to other areas of their fur, even going so far as to rip out chunks of fur in their quest to find relief. Additionally, when your dog's skin is damaged due to allergies, they will shed more and lose more fur. You may also notice that your pet has dandruff as well.
Your Pet's Skin is Inflamed
Look beyond your pet's fur and look at their skin. When your dog is suffering from seasonal allergies, their skin will become itchy and pink and can eventually become red and inflamed. You may be able to see their red skin more easily when you look at their groin, armpit, and abdomen area on their body, where the fur is not as naturally thick. This is also where your pet is most likely to come in contact with allergens as they lay in the grass.
Your dog may experience allergies during the summertime. If your dog has ear infections, is constantly licking its paws, is starting to lose fur, or has inflamed skin, you are going to want to take your pet to your local veterinarian. Your vet can give your pet medication to help control their allergies and stop the symptoms above. Your vet can help prevent your dog from experiencing the pain mentioned above.
